Child Rights Promotion

Our organization is involved in the pursuit of advocating child rights

Centre for Youth Empowerment and Civic Education (CYECE) is a Non Governmental and not-for-profit organization established in March 1997. It was formed with the aim of addressing the socio-economic development issues affecting young people in Malawi.

Education
  • Facilitate child development and reintegration activities such as early childhood development centres, child play centres, transitional centres etc.
  • Promoting access to quality education for the children
  • Promoting child Health and Nutrition
  • Awareness on Water and Sanitation Hygiene (WASH) in schools, households etc.
  • Creating community awareness on Child Labour Prevention
  • Child Marriage Prevention
  • Advocacy for progressive Child Friendly policies and Laws in Malawi
  • Building capacity for Youth clubs, community/ school related structures and parents to effectively protect children from abuses and keep them in school
  • Establish community child rights monitoring system that facilitates tracking on violations, reporting and follow ups
  • Train communities in the use of the modern technology i.e. personal digital assistance (PDAs) in data collection, monitoring and reporting of child labour, child marriages, sexual and school related gender-based violence
Health care
  • Strengthen the functionality of community structures on identification, referral, protection, management and monitoring of the most marginalized children at all levels
  • Support community/school related structures to formulate standard frameworks for most marginalized children’s education for example girls in self-boarding facilities etc.
  • Advocate for initiation and effective implementation of labour, education and child marriage related laws and policies i.e., tenancy bill, gender Equality Act, and compulsory education law
  • Enhance participation of children in social and economic development through child parliaments and other forums
  • Produce annual status reports on child rights issues and submit to relevant stakeholders for learning, planning and programming and advocacy
  • Supporting parents with income generating activities, livelihood skills and nutrition courses to enable them support children’ education
