Centre for Youth Empowerment and Civic Education (CYECE) is a Non Governmental and not-for-profit organization established in March 1997. It was formed with the aim of addressing the socio-economic development issues affecting young people in Malawi.

Health care

CYECE is working to increase uptake of quality and Comprehensive Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) information and services including HIV prevention among young people in Malawi.

Awareness

Every child has rights too, we try to ensure those rights are protected.

Education

We advocate for youth empowerment through capacity building, advocacy, community mobilization and communication.

CYECE’s development goal calls for Scaling up of interventions and efforts that protect children’s rights, empower young people and promote their health and wellbeing in Malawi.

Girls from Chulu primary school engaged in after school activities as one way of reducing Child Labor in tobacco growing area in Malawi. 

Community structures including moral duty bearers are aware of the girls SRH and education rights as well as the effects of child marriage/other harmful cultural practices and have created conducive community environment for girls SRHR and education, using Leadership Champions for Change  model, capacitated community leader championing efforts against child marriage by collaborating with the various child protection structures at community level.Withdrawal of children from illegal marriages and retention into school is made easy

improving  young people’s decision making positions by patronizing youth friendly service provision and seeking quality services, to peers, youth club members, through public awareness meetings parents are exposed to advantages of Youth friendly services information and access to young people and other issues affecting young people which are discussed in youth corners and youth clubs. Now parents allow their children join youth clubs as well as access quality health services through YFHS.

Community Driven Innovation is the next step where staff and community follows to develop, implement and monitor a project together. Setting the scene where staff together with the community identify the problem, vision and intervention to implement so as to address the problem, community driven, the community identify the problem and suggest what should be done…
